HPC-WU forms part of Wageningen University and represents one of its oldest disciplines. Prof. J. Sprenger founded it in 1917 and it is one of approximately 90 chairs within the University. Dutch horticulture is of great importance for the national economy and has a leading position in the world. To maintain this prominent position well-trained executives and fundamental research of high quality are of vital importance.
Our research is based on a systems analytical approach of product quality optimization and maintenance and is aimed at determining the physiological and morphological-anatomical basis for the differences in the quality attributes of ornamentals, vegetables and fruits. We are particularly interested in the non-linear interactions between the different variables that determine the development of quality traits. The aim is to minimize transport and waste in the whole supply chain and create the possibility of supply chain management with quality guarantees on a global scale.
